Exploring the Cultural Communication by Studying the Translation of the English Loanwords in Chinese
Abstract
Cultural contacts will inevitably bring about English loanwords, and that the occurrence of loanword is a natural socio-cultural phenomenon. First the thesis provides a definition of loanwords and accounts the historical development of loanwords from English into Chinese. Then, based on numbers of comparisons and analyses, five popular translating methods are summed up: transliteration, semantic translation, explanatory translation, pidgins and acronym. At mean time, it noted that the principles of the translation, such as being understandability, acceptability, conventionality and applicability should be abided. Besides, both the linguistic and cultural influences of English loanwords as the carriers of western culture on Chinese are also analyzed in this thesis. At last, according to the varying attitudes of scholars, the thesis concludes that people should invite the English loanwords rather than force against the healthy development of them.

摘 要
外來詞的產生是文化接觸的必然產物，是1種自然的社會語言現象。本文首先界定了外來詞的概念並陳述英語藉詞在漢語中的發展歷程；在比較和分析前輩對英語借入漢語途徑不同的'基礎上，總結出英語藉詞的翻譯技巧主要包括音譯、意譯、闡述法、英漢夾雜和縮略語借用，並指出藉詞的翻譯應準確明白，尊重文化差異，遵循慣譯和簡潔實用；接着，深入討論作爲西方文化傳播載體的英語藉詞對漢民族傳統文化的影響和衝擊；另外,文章針對學者們在漢語藉詞現象上的爭議,提出外來詞的借入不僅能豐富漢語的語言寶庫,還會給中國文化帶來先進的科學技術和思想等，提出我們應該以更開放的心態和更強烈的地球村的意識，來積極吸收消化藉詞。
