On Chinese-English Translation Strategies of Puns
Abstract
Pun, as a common rhetoric device, can enrich language expressions, and enforce the effect of language. In everyday life, it is widely used in communication and literature works. The double meanings of a pun make it difficult to be translated from Chinese to English. But it doesn’t mean that puns are not thesis studies the proper strategies such as alternative puns, literal translation, literal translation with annotation, paraphrase and so on, for the translation of Chinese puns into English, based on semantics and culture. By means of these strategies, both the implications and the style of a pun can be presented in its translation completely or partly.

摘 要
雙關作爲1種常用的修辭手法，具有豐富語言表達、強化語言效果的'功能，在日常生活、語言交際、文學作品中被廣泛運用。其蘊涵的雙重含義使它成爲漢英翻譯中的1個難點，但雙關語並非不可譯。本文以語義和文化爲切入點，討論了雙關語適當的翻譯策略。如：雙關替代法、直譯法、直譯加註法和意譯法等。通過這些方法使雙關語的內涵和語體色彩在譯文中得到最大的保留。
