A Research on the Strategies Employed in College English Listening Comprehension

Abstract

It is widely acknowledged that listeners are active processors of information instead of passive receivers of oral stimuli. In order to achieve real comprehension, listeners have to focus on the selected aspects of aural information and construct meaning from the aural input by drawing upon their prior knowledge of the world and of the target language. Listeners often resort to various listening comprehension strategies to help them make predictions, judgments and generalization to achieve comprehension and accomplish tasks. An awareness and deployment of effective listening comprehension strategies can help students capitalize on language input and achieve a greater success in language learning. So an analysis of listening strategies is very important.
This thesis is a report on the study of listening strategy used by college students. The purpose of the study is to see the efficiency and teachability of strategy training in English listening. Based on the theory of learning strategy, this thesis deals with the factors affecting students’ listening comprehension and listening strategy training. By doing a research on TEM--4 the listening of students in Hunan Institute of Science and Technology. It is found that listening strategy is very important in English listening and is necessary for us to do strategy training.

摘  要

研究者們認爲聽力理解過程並非是單1的語言信息解碼過程,而是1種解碼過程的意思再構造過程的`結合。在這1過程中,聽者積極運用語言知識和非語言知識、情景知識和背景知識,對所聽信息進行吸收和處理,以達到正確判斷說話人的意圖、獲得對話語的整體理解的目的。聽者往往要藉助各種聽力策略來幫助自己利用上下文信息和已有知識來進行推測、概括、和判斷,從而弄清楚意思、完成聽力任務。聽力策略對學生而言是極其有用的工具,因爲它打開了1條通往成功的可靠道路。因此對聽力策略的分析非常重要的。
本文是1篇關於聽力策略分析的研究報告。此研究在本校本專業學生中進行,旨在驗證聽力策略在聽力測試中的作用以及怎麼培養聽力策略。以學習策略爲做依據,此文主要研究影響聽力理解的因素和對學生聽力策略的培養。通過對本校學生在TEM4考試中聽力成績的研究來發現聽力策略的重要性以及聽力策略培訓的必要性。
