Close—ended Open—ended Both

Are…?

Do…?

Who…?

When…?

Where…?

Which…? How…?

Why…?

In what way…?

Tell me about… What…?

e。g。 Interviewer: Why do you want to study for MBA?

Candidate: That’s a rather difficult question。 There are two main reasons, I suppose。

I wrod like to know some more about…

Could you tell me a bit more bout…?

Sorry to press you, but could you tell me…?

Sorry, I did not quite understand, could you tell me …?

I did not quite follow what you said about…

Meaning?

For example?

Then you?

Therefore?

Which means?

So then?

例如:

A: How did you happen to move here?

B: I like the climate better。

A: Better than…

B: Better than the polluted air of the city。

A: Which means…

B: Which means I can expect better overall health for myself。

e。g。 I am sorry。 I do not understand。

Sorry。 I do not follow。

e。g。 I did not catch that。 Would you mind repeating it?

Could you repeat the question, please?

e。g。 Sorry。 I do not know what you mean by “Union Jack”

Would you mind explaining “Union Jack”?
