An Analysis of Cultural Connotations between Chinese and English Kinship Terms
Abstract
Chinese and English kinship terms belong to different types of addressing system. They are quite different in division, addressing and actual usage. It is widely known that kinship terms are closely related with tradition, national psychology, and political background. There exist many similarities as well as differences in terms of kinship terms between English and Chinese. It is the differences that render to a lot of problems in the course of inter-linguistic communication. From cross-cultural point of view, this thesis makes an analysis between these terms in English and Chinese, and discusses their differences and cultural connotations. The reason for the differences not only lies in linguistic factors, but also in cultural factors. Therefore, analyzing the differences from cross-cultural point of view is more helpful for us to communicate with each other accurately and smoothly.

摘 要
中英親屬稱謂系統存在着很大差異，它們屬於不同的稱謂制度，具有不同的`稱謂習慣，更蘊涵了不同的文化習俗。 衆所周知，親屬詞同文化傳統，民族心理以及政治背景等有着緊密的聯繫。英漢兩種語言的親屬詞既有相同之處，也有很多不同之處。正是諸多不同點造成語言交流之間的困難。本文從跨文化角度出發，對中英親屬詞進行了詳細分析，探討了中英親屬詞的差異以及它們的文化內涵。它們之間之所以存在如此大的差異，不僅涉及到語言的因素，更包含了文化等更多更復雜的因素。因此，從跨文化角度來探討問題，有助於我們更準確傳達全部信息。
