The Red Cross Society’s credibility had already plummeted after a recent scandal involving themisuse of donations, when it was found to have overspent 4.2 million yuan, exceeding by 34 percent the accepted budget for equipment procurement in December 2009.
在近期捐款濫用醜聞曝光後，公衆對中國紅十字會的信任度大幅下跌。國家審計署在審計過程中發現，中國紅十字會超額支出420萬元人民幣，比2009年通過的設備採購預算多出34%。
文中的misuse of donations就是指“捐款濫用”，也可以稱爲improper allocation of funds。此次，紅十字會還被審計出了其它一些spending irregularities（違規支出）問題，再加上之前的網絡炫富女事件，無異於add fuel to the public’s anger（火上澆油），不僅hurt its image（有損形象），而且shatter public trust（瓦解了公衆信任）。
郭美美近日發消息道歉，稱經理身份爲杜撰，但她的`boast online about her lavish lifestyle（網上炫富）行爲給紅十字會造成了惡劣影響。“炫富”還可以用flaunt the considerable wealth來表示，例如While the girls try to make the cut, the guys get to flaunt their considerable wealth. （在女孩們試圖晉級的同時，男士們則可以炫耀他們的鉅額財富。）
