一、在短期內，重要的是要把熟悉的已知詞彙掌握好。有的白領覺得自己的英語不夠好，對於自己掌握的詞彙量還不滿足，衝進書店就把詞彙書買回家猛背單詞。其實，這樣的方法很不可取。中國學生大學畢業後已經積累了一定量的單詞，但是大部分學生卻總是滿腦子單詞，真到開口說的時候，一句句子都說不完整。據統計，外國(特指說英語的國家)人每天日常使用的詞彙量約在800-1000個之間。因此，只要我們把握好平時最常用的詞彙，日常交流就能得心應手。
二、要學會在句子中掌握詞彙。可以嘗試着把詞彙放在特定的句子中記憶，並且反覆練習。
三、背誦實用的短文。俗話說得好：“熟讀唐詩三百首，不會吟詩也會吟”。背誦是練習英語口語的前提。把一些非常實用、適合自己層次的句型背誦下來，熟練之後就可以加以應用並脫口而出。例如，你可以選擇一篇關於如何陪同客人吃飯對話形式的短文，並背誦下來。以後在工作中遇到類似的情況，你就學會了該如何打電話、安排時間、聯絡客戶等等。又比如，給上級作年度評估報告的時候，你可以事先背誦一篇相關的短文，在實際工作中，只需要把一些數字變通一下即可。
