Please give reasons for your preference (marketing) :
In my opinion, marketing is a challenging work which requires the ability to analyze data quickly and learn fast, basing judgments on fact and the creativity to propose innovative solutions. We design and provide the perfect products and services to create and meet the customer’s demand though marketing. It’s very interesting and valuable. Both the company and the public will benefit from a successful marketing. I really love this creative work and I will get a sense of accomplishment through it. Besides, I have got comprehensive knowledge and a good sense about marketing through my study. And my technology background will help me think rationally and logically about outside existing boundaries to identify implications.

Please add any additional information that you would like to highlight in relation to your application. (Personal Development Award applicants, please describe your plans and what you expect to gain from the experience.):

First I hope to have a wide exposure to various jobs, such as marketing, business analysis, financial, etc. Then I plan to work for marketing department. After one year or more, I would like to join in a project, working with experts from business, legal, taxes, and treasury to achieve the goal. I will learn many things about marketing and management both personal and professional then become a marketing expert or a manager.
I hope I can get a wide exposure to a variety of jobs inside Shell and the right mix of on- and off-the-job training for my career path. Working in an open, trusting and diversified culture with people from various backgrounds will also impressed me.

Please state why you chose to follow these activities and how they have contributed to your personal development. You may wish to give details of your role, whether anyone else was involved and any difficulties you encountered.
I participated in SIFE team in Tianjin University. Working together as a team and through the mentoring of faculty advisers, we applied our university experiences to develop and implement educational outreach program that educate individuals in their communities about the principles of market economics and success skills.
  I took the role of Project Manager. First, we hold a meeting to find a highly feasible project. All the members contributed to the discuss through the brain storm. Then we decided to hold the fist “Free Manager Competition” in Tianjin and I was in charge of the project. More than twenty groups from eight colleges in Tianjin participated in it and we solicited $1000 sponsorship from HSBC. In the second period of the Competition, we plan to organize six selected groups to implementation their promotion planning. We should measure their promotion results fairly and simply. It was difficult because the flow of people was not stable and it would impact their scores. At last we solved this problem through reasonable arrangement in both process and time. I developed my leadership and team spirit though these activities and I enjoyed working with others.  

Please state how you have benefited from your work experience.
When I was an intern in Quality Assurance Department in Tianjin OTIS elevator limited company, I was in charge of an Achieving Competitive Excellence improvement project in Sales Cell. We found that in enter for bidding process sales would miss some projects biding for the lack of information. First I collected and analyzed the T/B data, then chose some prioritizing process to improve. After that we hold a meeting with some sales man to discuss the root cause. Using fishbone chart, NGT and 5 why, we finally found out three causes and took some  corrective actions. As a result, the T/B ratio fell down and the project succeeded. I learned how to apply management knowledge and tools to meet the customers demand and save the company’s cost. Also my communication skills were improved trough work with people from different departments. Besides, I collected the reports from all the staffs in Quality Assurance Department weekly and monthly. These administrative work made me more careful and patient.

Other than academic success, what has been your greatest achievement to date? What do you see as your personal strength, and why
I was one of the members who initiated the establishment of Outdoor Association. I managed the First Outdoor Festival in Tianjin University. From Nov,2003 to now we have hold dozens of outdoor activities. Many people who once know nothing about outdoor sports became to enjoy it and got wonderful experience. What’s more, we promote environmental concepts and encourage people to get close to nature.
  I have the ability to set a goal for the team and drive myself and my team to overcome any obstacles as they arise. I am positive and enthusiasm. The strong ability of leadership and communication is my strength. I enhanced these abilities through the activities and work I participated in.

The PRC BDP is to develop future banking specialists and leader through practical experience and management skills training. I am innovative and forward looking. The strong ability of leadership and communication is my strength. I enjoy working and sharing knowledge with others So I think the position is appropriate for me.
